He spent time with me on the phone trying to understand exactly what the problems were and possible solutions.  He did offer to come take a look and see what we could find but recommended a certified GE repair specialist because of the issues.  Either way he spent time trying to help me over the phone and wouldn’t let me pay him for his time.  This is rare nowadays and I appreciate that he wanted to help.

Why won't my gas fireplace pilot light stay lit?

Most often it’s a dirty pilot orifice or a worn thermocouple, the small sensor that tells the gas valve the pilot is actually lit. Both are common, normal wear issues, not something wrong with the whole unit.

Is it safe to keep relighting my gas fireplace myself?

Relighting the pilot once or twice following your owner’s manual is fine. If it won’t stay lit after that, or you notice a lingering gas smell, stop and call a repairman for gas fireplace issues rather than keep trying.

Do you install new gas fireplaces or only repair existing ones?

How often should a gas fireplace be serviced?

Once a year is a good rule of thumb, ideally before the season you’ll actually be using it.
